Hannibal residents react to GameStop closing – WGEM

HANNIBAL (WGEM) – For years, GameStop has been a staple of the gaming community, now residents from Hannibal will need to travel to the Gem City for their gaming needs.
On Friday, WGEM News reported the Hannibal GameStop location will official close down on Saturday, and they have already started to pack up the store.
Several residents stopped by the store Friday afternoon to learn more about the closure. One family in Hannibal even had a special connection to the store.
“Well, I was just sad to see it close, spent a lot of time in here. Worked here when I was in college, and just had a chance to come and look at some old games I didn’t know even existed, and gonna lose that opportunity with some of the discovery and talk to other people that are big gamers, and bigger gamers than I was,” said Hannibal resident Derek Wood.
Derek Wood’s son Jonas Wood also had a love for the store and is sad to see it close.
“I love just coming in and looking and browsing, and I find it sad that it’s closing because I really just like coming in, and taking a look at what they had and how good it looked,” Jonas Wood said.
Looking forward, store officials said any of the merchandise not sold will make its way to the Quincy location.
